US fast food chicken chain ‘that is better than KFC’ is to open first British shops at it confirms plans for 900 new branches

An American chicken fast food chain described as ‘better than KFC‘ is set to open its first stores in the UK after it confirmed plans for 900 branches.

Church’s Texas Chicken currently operates at 1,400 sites across 22 countries – and is now eyeing up the UK in expansion plans across the globe.

Top bosses revealed in a statement today that the brand is targeting new markets in the UK, France, Italy and Spain.

The chain is a firm favourite with American diners and has a similar menu to KFC.

But it also includes iconic American dishes such as ‘biscuits’ – a savoury bread served with some meals.

It’s previously come under scrutiny after it was sued by KFC for allegedly using their trademarked phrase – ‘original recipe’ – in its advertising.

The company has its roots in Texas, first opening in 1952 and quickly expanding across the US and further afield.

Roland Gonzalez, chief of Church’s Texas Chicken and Texas Chicken, said: ‘We are experiencing tremendous growth both domestically and internationally, with Europe playing a key role in our expansion strategy.

‘The European QSR market is evolving rapidly, driven by a growing demand for convenience and quick-service restaurant options.

‘We see huge potential to bring the Texas Chicken experience to new guests across the continent, and this is just the beginning.’

The company has opened 60 new locations worldwide over the past year.

Among the 900 new venues in the works are restaurants in Germany, Hungary, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Morocco.

Eric Hanson, Vice President of International Development, said: ‘We have been strategic in our approach around entering new international markets, thoroughly assessing both the needs and benefits that can provide to potential franchisees and guests.

‘Through our research, we discovered an underserved segment of the marketplace that craves affordable, high-quality chicken.

‘We are proud to fill that gap, offering exceptional taste and value in every meal while continuing to elevate our one-of-a-kind experience to more guests around the world.’
