Why women should wear bikinis no matter their age or shape

IF you think you should hide your body this summer – think again!

Fabulous Magazine’s Fashion Director, Tracey Lea Sayer has

Times have changed since 2015 when Protein World spent £250,000 on an ad campaign of a slim 20-something bikini clad model asking the reader “Are you beach body ready?” The uproar that followed about the objectification of women was global. Branded offensive, irresponsible and harmful, the verdict on the campaign and the social media uproar was well documented, and rightly so.

Now, I am happy to say that all sizes of women are represented in swimwear across the media landscape. Brands like JD Williams, In The Style and New Look, to name just a few, all work with models of all sizes and ages to promote their swimwear.

My social media feed is also full of ladies of all ages and sizes looking Fabulous in their swimmies. What started out as a trickle of shy bikini-clad selfies has now become a body-positive movement that makes us all feel good to get into our swimwear.

And why shouldn’t we! Our bodies are all completely different and we should be celebrating that fact.

At 53, I love bikinis, I love having an all over tan in the summer with as few white bits as possible. I don’t want to dumb myself down as I get older, I want to celebrate that I am still here! My aim is to keep on wearing bikinis well into my 80s if I am lucky enough to get there.

I have learnt to love the aging process. I will never look like I did in my 20s again, but I do enjoy looking after myself way more than I did back then. A better diet, more exercise and a lot of self-care makes me feel good on the inside as well as the outside.

I love that other cultures like to celebrate their elders. I think we should embrace this in western society instead of just fetishizing youth.

Aging isn’t something to be feared but embraced.

Wear the damn bikini, I am going to!

“Sometimes I’ll tell myself ‘OK, I’m going to hold that leg in place while I’m bending down’, and then your leg starts to tremble,” she added.

Healthy diet

Diet is also a very important part of Christie’s lifestyle and she places an emphasis on nutrition within her family.

and hers involves limited sugar and meat.

“I’ve always fed my children, my family, and myself a rainbow of colour a day,” she told The Cut.

Christie, who has been a vegetarian since she was 13, explained that a typically eats raw oats with berries and nuts for breakfast every day.

“For lunch, I go into greens and do a salad, then add a protein like a bean or nuts,” she said.

“Dinner is more of the same except maybe I’ll put my vegetables on a bean pasta, rice, grain, or quinoa.”

She also limits her sugar intake, finding it helps when trying to lose weight.

Christie is strongly opposed to dieting, saying people shouldn’t view healthy eating as a diet.

“It’s like you are denying something you should be having,” she explained.

“Instead, you need to have a paradigm shift and be like, ‘I have the opportunity to gift myself.'”

Beauty Treatments

While she is not a fan of Botox, Christie has candidly spoken about her anti-aging regimen.

“I keep my beauty routine very simple, I use sunblock and SBLA Beauty every day,” said the model, who is brand ambassador for company.

“I love knowing that under whatever sunblock or makeup I use that I have powerful active ingredients working for me giving me both immediate and long term results.”

She spoke about her negative experience with Botox during an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show.

“I don’t Botox. I like the movement. I like to be able to have expression and move my face,” she said.

“I only did Botox once and had a bad experience with it and I never did it again.”

However, she is still a fan of filler and laser treatments, and swears by SBLA’s sculpting wands for her neck and forehead.

“I’m aging at my own pace. And I love that today, we can choose how we want to age,” she said.

“It’s what you do EVERY DAY that will determine how healthy and vibrant you look and feel!” she wrote in a post on Instagram.

“Sleep well, eat a rainbow organic diet, stay hydrated, and protect and care for your skin 24 hours a day.”
