Teenager, 19, accused of murdering father and trying to murder his mother and an 11-year-old boy will stand trial in October

A teenager charged with the murder of his father and the attempted murder of his mother and an 11-year-old boy will face trial this October.

Fabio Botros, 19, was arrested after Emad Botros-Farag, 57, was found at his home with catastrophic injuries. He was later pronounced dead.

His mother, Maria Marvin and an 11-year-old boy were also found in the property with serious injuries and were taken to hospital, but have since been discharged.

The teenager appeared at Lewes Crown Court today charged with one count of murder and two of attempted murder. 

Wearing a grey sweatshirt and grey jogging trousers, the 19-year-old from Hollingbury, Brighton he spoke only to confirm his name and was remanded in custody.

Judge Christine Laing KC said he would face trial on October 1. He will return to court to enter a plea in June. 

Judge Laing said: ‘I’ve made some directions to make sure your trial proceeds in a speedy manner. The next time time you’ll be in court is June 20. Until then you’ll remain in custody.’ 

The tragedy took place at Hartfield Avenue, Hollingbury, shortly after 7.00am on Tuesday morning.

Residents called emergency services after hearing loud shouting and screaming at a nearby house. Witnesses reportedly heard a child shouting for help.

Officers arrested Botros at the scene and recovered two knives and a hammer.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cullimore of Sussex Police said: ‘This was a shocking and tragic incident, and our thoughts are with those affected and their loved ones.

‘Through our initial enquiries, it has been established that the victims and defendant are known to one another, and that the weapons involved are believed to be two knives and a hammer.

‘We recognise the impact this incident has also had on the local community, and we want to reassure members of the public that charges have now been secured and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this investigation.’
