DRAGONS’ Den star Sara Davies has let slip a major format change to the much-loved TV show after confirming why she is quitting.
Taking to Instagram to post a heartfelt message to ‘gutted’ fans of the show, the 40-year-old revealed this year’s series has been chopped in two, and that she was leaving to focus on her ‘first baby.’
In her post she said: “As this last run of Dragons’ comes to an end I have to say I’ve loved every minute of this series so far and I’m so proud of the businesses I’ve invested in this year!”
“As a lot of you will know, I’ve taken up my position again as CEO of Crafter’s Companion and my business is my big priority this year.”
“And when I commit to a business, I really commit, which is why I find Dragons’ Den such a rewarding role.”
The businesswoman went on to say how being a Dragon requires “so much dedication and time behind the scenes as you join the life of each business you invest in.”
The author also called the series “so much more than a TV show.”
She continued: “That’s why I’ve taken the decision to step away from the Den for now, to focus on my own business, which was my first baby! So I won’t be filming with the team this year for the next series.”
The much-loved entrepreneur then revealed that the show will be split in half, saying: “You can still catch me in the second half of this series of Dragons’ Den later in the year – it will not disappoint!”
Fellow Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden was quick to reply to her post, saying: “I’ll miss you in the Den and our walks after filming but I won’t miss you in life because we will see each other. Strange day for you today so sending love and wishes.”
Sara joined the BBC show in 2019 at the age of 35, making her the youngest ever female investor on the show.
She made her money after launching Crafter’s Companion, a business she set up while studying at University in York.
The company, which aimed to fill a gap in the market for card-making tools, has since seen her employ more than 190 staff.
She has also won more than 25 business awards and was awarded an MBE in 2016 for services to the economy.
Earlier this month, it was also revealed how the tycoon was set to present a new ITV show called Time is Money.
She revealed she was ‘absolutely delighted’ to be hosting the new series which she described as ‘exhilarating’.
The competition show will see contestants start with a jackpot they have to battle to keep, with every wrong answer knocking down the prize money, with the remaining competitor keeping the cash.
