Prince Harry seems unable to comprehend that security row is of his OWN making – not his father King Charles

WHEN Harry described his killing of 25 Taliban in Afghanistan as “chess pieces taken off the board” he was writing his memoir but also destroying his peace of mind.

The casual inference of the “bad guys eliminated before they kill good guys” was a red flag to assassins.

Without apparently fully considering the consequences, Harry had potentially written his own death warrant.

The Army was furious and said he had let the side down with his careless remarks.

Former top brass Colonel Tim Collins made that abundantly clear when he said: “We don’t do notches on the rifle butt, we never did.”

Much of Harry’s fight about his personal security stems from this error of judgment.

By revealing what he did he put not only himself, but others, in danger.

Harry now wants the already overburdened British taxpayer to pick up the tab for his mistake by financing security for him and his family when they visit the UK.

Yet he seems unable, or unwilling, to comprehend that much of the problem is of his own making.

It is not the fault of King Charles, his father, who he blames for not stepping in and using his influence.

Once again, Harry fails to understand that the King cannot get involved in what is a governmental matter.

It seems he cannot stand the thought that he could possibly make a mistake and blames everybody else.

Yet this week Harry was happy to go to Ukraine to promote his Invictus Games and visit veterans who had been wounded in battle.

His visit — and the spotlight on the injured — was a gallant thing to have done.

But it’s hard to understand how Harry is happy to go into a war zone but unwilling to walk around the more salubrious areas of London.

He seems a very confused man who is taking advice from too many quarters.

CONFUSED MAN

He has failed to live up to what was expected of him as a prince, which was a commitment to royal duty, so he bailed out, but blamed everyone else.

He should have listened to his grandfather, Prince Philip, who explained to him that, as a royal “you can’t have all the advantages and perks without the responsibility and the obligation”. Harry wants the advantages: great wealth, a beautiful home, wife and children. He said he wanted a private life but he has had anything but.

By putting himself in the public eye through Netflix and other deals he effectively becomes a potential target.

His situation has echoes of the Duke of Windsor who abdicated his responsibilities as King. He too felt he was not given what he deserved.

He continually asked his brother, King George VI, for things — forgetting it was his decision to quit.

He admitted in the end he lost faith in himself and the institution he had deserted.

“It’s very hard to shake off one’s past, especially a past as rigid and as fixed as mine,” he later said.

Harry would surely agree with this. But he has cashed in on his name.

And there is no reason for the British people to want to pay to provide Harry and his family with state-funded security protection when he visits.

He is no longer a working member of the Royal Family and that was his choice.

A timeline of Prince Harry’s family feud

IN 2018, the Sun told how “simmering tension

The first hints of friction reportedly came after William was introduced to Meghan when she was staying at Kensington Palace.

Once she’d returned home to Canada, William and Harry sat down for a brother-to-brother chat.

He knew Harry was already head-over-heels for her but it has been claimed he advised him to take it slowly.

The younger prince reportedly didn’t take too kindly to the advice, with one royal source saying he “went mental”.

Then in June 2019 Harry and Meghan officially split off from the charity they shared with William and Kate.

The Royal Foundation will be divided between the Sussexes and Cambridges as the couples focus on their own separate charitable endeavours.

Prince William and Prince Harry first established the Royal Foundation in 2009 before Kate joined two years later shortly after their engagement was announced.

The trio would often appear together at events and the Foundation had huge successes with projects like the Invictus Games for injured veterans and the mental health Heads Together campaign.

The Royal Foundation said the decision was made following the conclusion of a review into its structure – but added both couples will continue to work together in the future.

Harry and Meg were living in close proximity to Kate and Wills within the Kensington Palace estate, but they switched to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor before baby Archie was born.

The move further increased rumours of a fallout.

Harry also hinted in his ITV documentary “Harry and Meghan, An African Journey” that he and his brother had grown apart.

In 2021, Harry and Meghan give their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey where Harry accused his dad of cutting him off financially.

Harry then jetted back to UK to join William in unveiling a statue to their mother Princess Diana in the grounds of Kensington Palace. But sources claimed William didn’t want to attend the memorial amid their ongoing rift.

In 2022, just before their grandmother the Queen died, sources claimed Kate acts as a “peacemaker” between the brothers.

Harry claimed his brother “knocked him to the floor” during an argument about Meghan, in his memoir.

In Spare, Harry said William branded Meghan “rude” and “difficult” during a row.

Harry alleged William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor”.

He said he was left with a visible injury to his back following the argument in 2019 at Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace, where he was living at the time.

In January this year, Harry flew in to be with Charles after the monarch’s shock cancer diagnosis.

Harry flew back to the US the following day – without seeing Wills.

In May he visited the UK for a three-day visit without seeing King Charles or Prince William.
