One posted: ‘Masterpiece, brilliantly written and directed, with Oscar-worthy performances from a great cast.’;

‘Very good writing, very good direction, very good acting. Intense and heavy.’;

‘Such a fantastic movie. Horribly depressing. Great cast. Beautiful cinematography, it makes me want to grab a beer, cigarette and sit by the dock. Growing up in MA. This one hits home, a familiar sadness.’;

‘A brilliant narrative style, profound content, and emotions that feel genuine rather than forced.’;

‘An amazing and heartbreaking film. Highly recommended. There is a scene well towards the end where Affleck and Williams meet which is, I think, one of the most superbly acted I have ever seen.’;

‘Great movie. Had a very powerful punch emotionally, one I haven’t seen replicated in many movies. Warning, you will cry.’

However, not everyone has been impressed by the film and one viewer wrote: ‘I have no understanding of why this movie has such great reviews. I’m so upset about the chunk of life wasted watching this, that I will never get back. If you want to be terribly sad and bored….with no conclusion to be found, this is the movie for you!’

Another commented: ‘There’s 2hrs of my life I can’t get back!’

It comes as Netflix fans were gripped by an ‘absolutely heartbreaking’ movie that’s based on a real story.

Breaking was first released back in 2022 and recently dropped on the streaming platform. It delves into the story of former US Marine Brian Brown-Easley who finds himself in need of financial support.

After being denied help from Veterans Affairs, he becomes so desperate that he ends up holding a bank and several employees hostage before facing a standoff with police.

The thriller has a respectable 81% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and some viewers have left their verdicts on the review site.

Manchester By The Sea is available to stream on Netflix now.
