RETAIL giant Marks & Spencer is opening up six brand-new locations – while giving 11 existing stores a makeover.

The high-street icon is setting up six Foodhalls across London and revamping nearly a dozen sites after committing a whopping £90million to investment.

The first of the 11 refurbished stores will open this week in Clapham South.

M&S announced that this store will have a “fresh look” with a “brand-new produce section”.

In a win for frozen food-lovers, it will also boast “freezer sections twice the size” as the store’s previous ones.

The beloved retailer also announced that the multimillion-pound investment for future stores would create 450 new jobs for locals.

They added that it would build on the previous £30million investment made last year, and the extra £50million investment in stores across the Northwest of England.

The brand-new Foodhalls will open their doors in Covent Garden, Leytonstone, Clapham Common, Putney, New Malden and Fulham Broadway.

They will be completed “over the next few years, pending planning permisison”, according to M&S.

The popular retailer said the new Foodhalls and extensions will add a huge 70,000sqft to their existing London stores.

In terms of upgrades, existing Foodhalls in Brooklands, Islington, Brent Cross, Whetstone, Wimbledon, Chiswick and Clapham South are being renewed.

And three train station stores in Euston, St Pancras and Charring Cross have also been given a facelift.

M&S also announced that it would be revamping their Pantheon store on Oxford Street.

They said that it would bring central London shoppers “the latest innovations” and bring the store up to standard as part of its “rotation and renewal programme”.

Operations Director at M&S Sacha Berendji said “London has always been a special place” for the brand, while hailing the new locations.

He said that the current branches “serve thousands of customers in the capital” before praising the revamped store in Oxford Street.

The director added: “Our pipeline of stores demonstrates our continued investment in London, and we will continue to bring the very best of M&S to customers from Brixton to Barnet for years to come.”

M&S has over 100 stores across London, with its first ever store opening in 1903 in Brixton.

The growing retailer said that the new investment would “enable the retailer to reach even more customers across the capital to deliver a bigger, better and fresher shopping experience”.

All the new store plans are however subject to planning permission.

Last year, M&S revealed nine “new and improved” food locations across the UK.
