Mother insists she’s not putting a wig on her daughter after giving birth to a baby with astonishingly thick head of hair

A baby was born with such an astonishingly thick head of hair that people were convinced she was wearing a wig.

Hadjer Harizi, 25, gave birth to her daughter Liyana Svenningsen in August last year at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Scotland.

According to Hadjer, even the seasoned midwives were stunned when her newborn came into the world sporting a full head of hair.

Now seven months old, Liyana’s enviable locks have grown so long that Hadjer is regularly stopped in the street by people.

Hadjer, a stay-at-home mother based in Glasgow, Scotland, said: ‘People always stop us in the street or at the shops to ask about her hair.

‘Someone once asked if it was a wig and when I jokingly said yes, they fully believed me!’

Hadjer wasn’t entirely surprised when Liyana emerged with a full head of hair since she was also born with lots of hair.

Hadjer added: ‘I wasn’t really surprised because both my husband and I had a lot of hair when we were born too.

‘The midwives at the hospital would come to my room and say ‘We’re here to see the baby born with full head of hair’.

‘They were quite shocked to see Liyana’s hair.’

Liyana’s hair grew so fast that by the time she was four months old Hadjer was already styling it to keep it out of her face.

The baby’s hair has become her signature feature, with Hadjer taking special care of it.

She said: ‘I wash her hair every three days because it becomes greasy.

‘We use a scanning app to check for any harsh chemicals in shampoos and conditioner.

‘And we never let her hair air-dry. She actually loves using the Dyson hairdryer!

‘I absolutely love styling her hair every day and I’m not going to cut them until she decides to when she’s older.’

And Liyana isn’t the only newborn whose impressive barnet has turned heads among strangers.

Back in November 2023, Julia Ray, 34, told how passers-by often stopped her to ask if her daughter Millie Ray, then-five months, was wearing a hair piece.

Videos of Millie racked up hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok and attracted numerous comments about her hair.

Viewers often compared Millie to a baby doll, a fairy or a children’s book illustration – but mother Julia had her own idea.

The recruiter, from Vancouver, Canada, compared Millie to Monchhichi, a popular Japanese soft toy in the form of an adorable monkey with fluffy hair.

‘Her hair was growing strong well before she came into this world,’ Julia said.

‘People say “Wow, that’s a lot of hair! What do you feed your baby?” Most people think she’s much older than she is because of her long hair.

‘Often people will ask if her hair is real.

‘We joke about it being a wig for babies.’

Julia thought that the toddler’s tresses were down to genetics as she and her partner Alex, 39, a business owner, also have thick hair.

‘We definitely think it’s a mix of our genes as Alex was also born with a full head of hair but still nowhere near as full as Millie’s.

‘Alex’s hair is still very thick to this day.

‘Mine is also fairly thick but Millie has me beat.’

Despite what one might have assumed, Julia and Alex never did anything special to their baby’s hair.

Julia added: ‘Since she is only just five months old, we mainly wash her hair with just water and baby shampoo once in a while.’

The little girl’s impressive hair turned her into a social media phenomenon, which baffled her parents.

Julia explained: ‘We were surprised by how many people were fascinated with her.

‘Every single comment has been about her hair but all very positive!’

‘Her head was covered in a couple of inches of hair at birth. Came out looking like Monchhichi.’
