A HUGE blaze has erupted at a recycling plant – as locals are urged to keep their windows closed.
Footage from the scene shows flames ripping through the Derbyshire building – after breaking out shortly before 8.30pm on Tuesday night.
Eight fire engines are currently tackling the blaze, said Derbyshire Constabulary.
The force is urging all locals in the Ikeston area to “please avoid the area”.
In a statement shared to Facebook, a spokesperson said: “We currently have 8 fire engines and an aerial ladder platform dealing with a fire at a recycling centre on Crompton Road in #Ilkeston.
“Firefighters were called to attend the fire following a 999 call to our control room at 20.32 hours.
“If you can see or smell smoke, please keep your windows and doors closed.
“Please avoid the area while emergency services deal with the incident.
“No further information is currently available.”
Locals quickly took to social media with footage from the scene.
In one clip, black smoke can be seen billowing from the plant – as the cameraman describes a “popping” sound.
A large fleet of fire engines can be seen in the foreground.
Another clip, filmed from inside a car, shows orange flames coming from inside the building – as firefighters gather outside.
