Gamers furious as long-awaited console is delayed and could cost MORE because of Trump: ‘A huge mess’

Shock hit the gamer community this morning after a hotly anticipated console announced a delay.

The Nintendo Switch 2, a remake of the portable console that sold like gangbusters in 2017, was supposed to start pre-orders on April 9.

But the company confirmed to DailyMail.com that it needs time to assess President Donald Trump’s tariff policy.

‘Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,’ Nintendo sources said.

‘Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.’

For now, the company said it will not adjust prices.

But fans are speaking out on social media, saying they’re anticipating the console’s initial $449.99 price is about to spike.

‘On the real, the Switch 2 is going from $500 to like $750,’ one X-user said.

‘Not only is the Switch 2 pre-order delayed, it is also possible Nintendo will increase the price for the US market,’ another fan said.

‘This is a HUGE mess.’

The Switch 2 is mostly built in China and Vietnam, two countries most impacted by President Trump’s larger-than-expected tariffs.

The President launched basline tariffs of 10 percent on products coming from most companies.

Meanwhile, all products manufactured in Vietnam must pay a 46 percent tariff rate while products from China have to pay an additional 34 percent.

If Nintendo keeps the initial $449.99 retail price on the console, it will likely have to front millions of dollars on a product that took months longer than initially predicted to bring to the US market.

Customers have already been frustrated by the new console’s price. Previous models cost $150 less at $299.99.

‘We gotta roll it back boys,’ another Switch fan said on X about the tariffs.

‘This has been fun, but gimme my Switch 2.’

The Switch has been a massive success for the video gaming brand.

Nintendo reports it has sold over 150 million units of the product around the world.

But the latest iteration brings in a bunch of tech that will help gamers tap into live games.

The Switch 2 has a built-in microphone and an optional camera add-on.

Graphics are now in an improved 1080p.

‘Because of the environment were in, it’s a hands-on experience,’ the console’s director, Takuhiro Dohta, said at a teaser event.
