Former boxing champion Oscar de La Hoya has sparked health concerns after he was seen wearing a mask in an attempt to make himself look ‘younger’.
De La Hoya, 52, posted a video of himself on social media using a form of beauty treatment known as hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT).
Posting on Instagram, he wrote: ‘These lasers only making me younger and cuter…sorry fellas. CO2 laser + hyperbaric chamber= sexy papichulo by next week’.
The process involves breathing pure oxygen in a pressurised chamber, which increases the amount of oxygen available to the body’s tissues.
As a result, HBOT is offered to help promote healing and fight infections, meaning it can be used to treat conditions such as anaemia and carbon monoxide poisoning.
Although the procedure is often safe and can pass without incident, some side-effects include ear and sinus pain, middle ear injuries, temporary vision changes and the risk of a lung collapse, according to the US FDA.

Due to the high concentration of oxygen posing a risk of fire, the body also recommends undergoing the treatment at an accredited facility.
De La Hoya’s decision to opt for the treatment comes after he hit out at Joe Rogan after being denied the chance to appear on his podcast.
Last month, Rogan, 57, accused De La Hoya, 52, of being ‘off the rails’ while claiming that he also had ‘fake abs’.
Responding on Instagram to Rogan, De La Hoya said: ‘Really? Let’s take a look at your evolution over the last 15 years’.
He then proceeded to show a series of clips of the MMA commentator ageing over the past two decades.
In a pointed retort, the boxing star added: ‘Man, I’m glad I cleaned up my life and got off the f***ing drugs’.
He also claimed that Rogan had a ‘contract’ that requires him to ‘stay hating’ on the man who was nicknamed ‘The Golden Boy of Boxing’.
De La Hoya’s reply came after Rogan questioned the legitimacy of his body transformation in a conversation with UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad.

Rogan asked: ‘Why has Oscar De La Hoya got fake abs?. You seen that? Oscar De La Hoya has got some fake abs. Something’s going on, man.
‘Oscar De La Hoya didn’t have abs throughout his boxing career. Look at him now. What’s going on there? It’s either he’s got some fake abs or he’s going semi-glutide, one or the other.
‘The thing is, his abs don’t match his chest or his arms. Look how defined his abs are, like they even when he’s sitting there. It’s like the Liver King.’
In August 2024, De La Hoya was embroiled in a social media controversy after a video posted of him and his partner was removed following a number of complaints.
He had taken to Instagram to share a video of himself dancing with his partner Holly Sonders in what was described by Spanish outlet Marca as ‘a sexual boogie’.
Sonders is filmed in underwear, while De La Hoya is wearing nothing but a leopard print thong as the two dance together to Spanish-language song Loca People by Sak Noel.
The video rapidly went viral, but as a result was brought to the attention of those that seemingly were not so impressed with the clip.
One account re-posted the clip before it was taken down by Instagram, writing: ‘She looks disgusting and Oscar is having mid-life crisis.

‘This is not gonna go well, the internet will destroy them.’
De La Hoya was not impressed by the action taken by Instagram, insisting that his ‘enemies’ were responsible for reporting the video.
‘I just got banned. My last post was really funny and the haters reported it. They hate to see me happy,’ he said on social media.
Sonders added: ‘We both posted a funny video an hour ago,’ Sonders, 37, wrote in a post on her Instagram Story. ‘It got taken down on both our accounts due to lames reporting it.
‘Oscar’s had 6000 comments in 30 minutes. I guess some ppl really hate to see us having fun. The good news … we will be back with more.’
