Van den Bergh, 30, has been confirmed to be stepping away from the PDC circuit.

This is so the Belgian thrower will be focusing on his health and overall well-being.

The decision was revealed by fellow darts star Vincent van der Voort during an appearance on the Darts Draait Door podcast.

The Dutch former pro has backed Van den Bergh’s decision and suggested it is due to fatigue.

He said: “He’s stepping back to work on his health and on himself.

“I think it’s a gutsy move. The lad’s just run out of steam.

“Things haven’t been going his way lately, and sometimes you need to be strong enough to say: I’m taking a step back.”

Van der Voort, 49, also insisted that the sport can take its toll on players.

He added: “When my back was at its worst, I thought about it seriously.

“You look at the rankings and see yourself slipping.

More than half of Brits think darts is NOT a sport despite meteoric rise of Luke Littler, new research reveals

“You’ve got your mortgage to think about, your family to support—it’s not easy to just walk away.”

Van Den Bergh is likely to see his ranking fall from 20th on the PDC Order of Merit due to his absence.

Van der Voort added: “That sort of thing brings added stress.

“There are plenty of players who just keep pushing and pushing. Dimitri’s hit that point where he’s had enough.

“It’s better to take a step back, reset, and then come back stronger.”

The teenager, who went on to win the world title in December, won the Premier League in 2024 and will be looking to defend his crown over 18 thrilling weeks.

There were two new entries this season, with Stephen Bunting and Chris Dobey replacing Peter Wright and Michael Smith.

Luke Humphries, Rob Cross, Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price and Nathan Aspinall keep their place in what will be a hotly-contested title race.
