But what caught people’s attention the most was the inclusion of an iPhone she clutched onto while getting clicked.

The official portrait shows the 18-year-old princess giving a candid pose while holding the smartphone in a trendy case.

The photograph was taken to celebrate her 18th birthday and was posted on the Danish royal family’s official website and other social media platforms.

And it caused a massive stir among the viewers, who dubbed her the “ultimate modern royal”.

The picture went viral almost instantly, sharply dividing people’s opinions.

One user on X slammed the picture, calling it “bizarre”.

They wrote: “This is bizarre…. Can’t decide if it’s pro or anti-modern phone addiction. Is this ‘the ultimate modern princess’ or a depressing indictment of modern culture?”

While another person defended the princess, hailing her modern touch.

They wrote: “Love this official picture of Danish princess Isabella on her 18th birthday – when old world royalty meets today’s tech reality.”

The informal photograph was shared alongside a series of other official portraits of Princess Isabella.

And they were all captured by royal photographer Steen Evald, who has been the official photographer for the family for over two decades.

Posting the picture online, the princess wrote: “Thank you so much to everyone who helped me celebrate my 18th birthday.

“It has been really nice that so many people have spent their time, thought and effort to make my day so special. This means a lot to me.”

Princess Isabella was born on April 21, 2007, and still lives with her family in their main residence in Amalienborg, Copenhagen.

The Danish royal family is one of the oldest monarchies in the world.

On January 14, 2024, Queen Margrethe II abdicated her role after a reign that lasted more than five decades.

She became Europe‘s longest-serving head of state and the world’s longest-serving female head of state upon the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022.

The former queen then passed on the throne to her eldest son, the now King Frederick.

Frederik and Mary have four children: Christian, Isabella, Vincent and Josephine.

Their eldest, Prince Christian, was born on October 15, 2005, and resides at Herlufsholm Boarding School in Næstved.

Their youngest children, twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, were born on January 8, 2011.

Interestingly, Margrethe II is a descendant of Queen Victoria and King Christian IX of Denmark, meaning she was a third cousin of Queen Elizabeth.

She is also a relative of King Philip, who was born a Prince of Greece and Denmark, as he also shared ancestry with Queen Victoria and King Christian IX.
