Chelsea 1 Tottenham 0: Enzo Fernandez gives Blues bragging rights and extends incredible home record vs Spurs

ENZO FERNANDEZ’s bullet header settled a fiery derby as Chelsea cemented fourth place.

Sorry Tottenham remain 14th after coming off second best in more ways than just the scoreline.

A mass flare-up erupted just before half-time

Spurs saw a sign of things to come – with a bizarre and miraculous escape inside the first minute.

Nicolas Jackson surged onto a ball over the top from Trevoh Chalobah, with keeper Guglielmo Vicario blocking the Blues’ striker.

But inrushing Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven saw it bounce off him and onto the post.

Jackson in particular had other opportunities to notch the first-half opener Enzo Maresca’s men deserved.

In contrast, Spurs looked disjointed.

Guglielmo Vicario conjured a brilliant tip-round after Jadon Sancho’s fierce, angled shot deflected off Djed Spence.

And the first period ended in a mass flare-up – started by Cristian Romero shoving Levi Colwill to the floor.

But only Romero and Chalobah were booked.

Finally in the 50th minute Fernandez grabbed Chelsea’s belated opener.

Spence lost possession and Cole Palmer picked up the loose ball for a precision cross powered home by the head of Fernandez.

Son Heung-min failed with a great chance to equalise just ahead of 12 minutes of stoppage-time, keeper Robert Sanchez foiling him,

Chelsea went into the derby two points off the top four.

And ahead of kick-off Spurs were 14th on 34 points – a massive 10 points off the top half.
