Greek authorities are investigating the death of a three-year-old British boy found drowned in the swimming pool of a holiday villa.
The toddler had just arrived for a holiday with his parents and extended family at the luxury villa on the island of Zante which is popular with British tourists.
Local authorities said the family were getting ready to go out for dinner when they suddenly noticed the little boy had vanished.
A search of the villa where they were staying in at Tsilivi was quickly launched and the boy was found unconscious in the pool.
Paramedics were called to the villa and the boy was transferred to Zante’s main hospital where he was declared dead.
Local media said the boy had been found by his grandfather and prosecutors have opened an investigation into the exact circumstances of what happened.
A police official confirmed the incident had happened to MailOnline but added he was not authorised to disclose any further details.
A website for the £2,000-a-week four-bedroom villa where the family was staying describes it as a ‘true gem’ that is ‘tucked away in a completely private location’.
