Ambulance crews rushed to the holiday home and quickly took the boy to hospital.

He was sadly pronounced dead as he arrived, according to local media.

The heartbreaking death took place on Sunday afternoon in a holiday region of the small village of Planos.

The toddler was with his mother, two aunts and grandparents at a rented villa, according to Greek state broadcaster ERT.

He reportedly went into the swimming pool as his family members were inside the villa preparing to go out for lunch, their report added.

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office has since confirmed the tot’s death.

A spokesperson said: “We are providing consular support to the family of a British child who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”

Investigations are still ongoing into the exact circumstances around the child’s death.
