MANY UK shops will be adjusting their hours over the Easter bank holiday weekend.
Asda is set to pull the shutters on all of its locations for a 24 hour period.
So whether you’re planning to host an Easter dinner or simply need to pick up treats left by the Easter bunny, we suggest planning ahead.
All Asda outlets will be closed on Easter Sunday, re-opening again on Easter Monday.
This 24 hour closure is a result of Government rules which state that shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres have to close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.
Sundays trading laws stipulate that any stores that choose to remain open can only do so for six consecutive hours between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM.
But don’t fret, you’ll still have loads of time to get your Easter bits sorted at Asda.
The bigger stores will be open as normal in the days leading up to Easter Sunday, so there is no need to panic.
Asda locations in England and Wales will open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Good Friday.
They will then close for the entirety of Easter Sunday before re-opening from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Easter Monday.
So there’s plenty of time to stock up on your favourite chocolate eggs.
Meanwhile, Asda outlets in Scotland will operate in line with Sunday trading hours throughout the weekend.
Asda locations in Northern Ireland will also be closed on Easter Sunday.
They will open from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Good Friday, Easter Saturday, and Easter Monday.
You can always check your local store’s hours using the store locator on Asda’s website, just to be sure.
Alternatively, you can check the Asda app for the opening times of any shop.
Don’t miss their fab mix-and-match deal on eggs this Easter.
Why do retailers close on Easter Sunday?
A legal mandate in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland dictates that all store locations over 280 square metres are required to close on Easter Sunday.
The Sunday Trading Act 1994 restricts the opening hours of larger stores on Sundays.
Smaller shops, under 280 square metres, are not subject to this law but many still choose to close to give their staff a break.
These rules also apply to locations on Christmas Day.
Scotland does not have specific restrictions on operating hours for these days.
