AMAZON has unveiled a new smart camera rival to its already popular Ring gadgets – and it has more than double the battery life.
The Blink Outdoor 4 has motion detection, live view, a wider field-of-view than its predecessor and works with Alexa.
And it lasts two years on a single charge – which is over twice as long as the six to 12 months Ring promises for its own gadgets.
Alongside the new outdoor camera, a new Blink Battery Extension Pack has hit shelves.
If you attach it to the Blink Outdoor 4, you can double the battery life again to up to four years.
- The Blink Outdoor 4 is available on Amazon for £69.99 here.

“Since day one, Blink’s focus has been to deliver simple, affordable smart home security that helps customers stay connected to what matters most,” Dave Ward, managing director for Blink, said in a statement.
The Blink executive said despite the new “advanced features and greater functionality” the gadget doesn’t compromise “on the battery life Blink is known for”.
The gadget also boasts Blink’s new person detection feature, which uses ‘computer vision’ to detect human visitors or passerbys.
The feature, included only in Blink’s paid-for subscription package, can cut out the annoying ‘false alarm’ notifications caused by passing traffic or pets.
A Blink Subscription Plan starts at £2.50 a month per device.
Though new customers will receive a 30-day free trial of Blink’s Plus Subscription Plan when they purchase Outdoor 4.
Similar to Ring, the Amazon-owned gadget works with Alexa.
It means you can hear motion announcements through your Alexa speakers, use other gadgets to arm and disarm your system, and even use Motion Detection in an Alexa routine.
