THE Easter Bank Holiday weekend is a chance to catch up with friends and family.
And for many, the four-day break is the perfect time for a good drink or two.
If you’ve not bought yours yet, we’ve scoured the shelves to find out the cheapest spots to find your favourite tipples.
Of course, whenever you are buying alcohol, make sure to shop around to get the best deals.
Price comparison websites such as Trolley.co.uk are the best for comparing product prices across the major chains.
Wine
A number of major supermarkets are running multibuy offers for customers buying wine in bulk.
Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda are offering shoppers a 25% discount on purchases of six bottles of wine or more.
Be aware though, you’ll need to have a Clubcard or Nectar Card to get the deal from Tesco or Sainsbury’s.
It means someone spending £40 on six bottles of wine can get them for £30 instead – a £10 saving.
Majestic Wines is also offering customers buying six or more bottles discounts when purchasing online.
Aldi is selling a range of bottles of wine and Prosecco for £2.99 each, which is the cheapest we spotted of the major supermarkets.
Beer and cider
Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda all have multibuy or mix and match offers on across a selection of beers.
Tesco has a buy three large bottles of beer or cider for £6 deal on, for Clubcard customers.
Shoppers can get three bottles of Gwynt Y Ddraig Black Dragon 500ml cider for £6 instead of £8.10 – a £2.10 saving.
Sainsbury’s is also running a buy four drinks for £7 offer, including on its 500ml bottles of Fuller’s London Pride.
Asda has also slashed the price of a number of its multipacks as part of its Rollback scheme.
Shoppers can get a 10x440ml pack of San Miguel cans for £9.97, down from £13.
A 24x300ml crate of Budweiser beers is £14.98, down from £18.98 too.
Spirits
The least expensive place to buy your favourite spirit depends on where you’re shopping.
The cheapest retailer for a 70cl bottle of Smirnoff is B&M, where it costs £15.50. You can only buy the bottle in-store though.
Meanwhile, a 70cl bottle of Bacardi white rum is cheapest at Asda, costing £15.97.
The cheapest place to get a 70cl bottle of Jack Daniel’s is Waitrose, which has slashed the price from £28 to £20.
You’ll save even more by going for retailer’s own-brand lines this Bank Holiday though.
For example, a 70cl bottle of Sainsbury’s’ own-brand vodka costs £12.49 – £3 cheaper than the Smirnoff from B&M.
A 70cl bottle of white rum from Aldi is £11.99 – almost £4 cheaper than the Bacardi from Asda.
How to bag a bargain
SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…
Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.
Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.
Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.
Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.
Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.
Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.
Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.
And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.
