The Elites Sent a Message to Maher — And Everyone Else – HotAir

Call it the Trump Plan, if you will. Cross the Leftist elite, and you’ll suffer character assassination and even financial and legal ruin. The sneering limousine progressives will scream about diversity and inclusiveness all day long, but attempt to actually put it in practice by having dinner with an opponent, and …

… well, get prepared to be called a Nazi sympathizer by your “friend” in the New York Times

Scott Jennings diagnosed this very well last night on CNN. This isn’t about the dinner that Bill Maher had with Donald Trump a couple of weeks ago. It’s about the next dinner invitation that Maher or anyone else receives. The Left — especially the entertainment-industry and mainstream-media Left — will launch a vicious character-assassination campaign against anyone who dares to engage with the political opposition.

Also, an incredibly stupid campaign, but we’ll get to that momentarily:

JENNINGS: And — and the message of this is not to — because Bill Maher, first of all, I totally agree. He’s totally in the right to do it and I loved his monologue. Even though I disagree with most everything he believes politically, he was right to do this and he was right to speak out about it, but this isn’t about that dinner.

It’s about the next one because this is the modern Left. It’s an attempt always to intimidate people into not ever doing it again. It’s to silence yourselves or we’ll do it for you. That’s the purpose of this op ed so that the next comedian or the next person on the American left chooses not to speak to Donald Trump. This isn’t — this is all an effort to get people not to do what you just said, which is to talk to each other and our political leaders.

And the message was hardly subtle. It came from Hollywood A-lister Larry David — reportedly a friend of Maher’s until this week — and it got published under the headline “My Dinner With Adolf.” The Godwin’s Law abomination ran in the New York Times, no less, the bastion of progressive-agenda enforcement. This wasn’t just a signal or a warning shot across the bow; it was a declaration of war on Maher for having the temerity to sit down with a president for a dinner — while still criticizing Trump’s decisions to his face

And as I wrote yesterday in my VIP column, David’s essay was as depressingly stupid as it was malicious. Trump is not Hitler, and he’s not even close. Hitler didn’t come to power and have dinners with his critics, for one thing; he put critics in camps, or had them killed by storm troopers until the storm troopers became a liability, and then he had them killed by the SS. (Read up on The Night of the Long Knives.) Hitler didn’t demand an end to anti-Semitism on campuses either, but instead ordered it to become policy throughout all of government, right up to the point where Hitler implemented his “final solution,” a phrase that Hamasniks have been using at times during their campus intimidation campaigns over the last 19 months.

The most ironic and frankly stupidest aspect of Larry David’s Nazi reference is that he and the Left are angriest over DOGE and the dismantling of the bureaucratic state. Needless to say, Hitler didn’t dismantle the bureaucratic state; he transformed it into an absolute tyranny. The Left loves the bureaucratic state not because they are Nazis (let’s not make the same error as the Left), but because it exists to impose the Left’s ideological agenda no matter who gets elected to the presidency or to Congress. It’s an unaccountable state within a state, and it ensures the Left’s access to power.

But at some level, the stupidity of the allegation doesn’t matter; the social cost of the accusation does. All it took was one dinner with Trump at the White House and the rather intriguing monologue that followed for David to paint Maher as a goose-stepping lackey. And even more notably, that’s all it took for the New York Times to print it, too — a newspaper that routinely runs essays from the worst regimes on Earth (Putin, Iranian mouthpiece Javad Zarif, just to name a couple) as a way to promote “dialogue.”

That’s just despicable. It serves as a demonstration of who and what the Left — especially the elites in media — really are. They don’t want diversity, democracy, or dialogue; they want power by any means necessary. And if you think that’s a bit strong, just look at the Hamasniks over the last 19 months, or the weird sex cult of Luigi Mangione that has emerged. It’s utterly unhinged, and a constant reminder of why these people should never have access to power in the future.
