Reddit goes DOWN: Social media site goes dark around the world

Online forum Reddit went down on Monday for tens of thousands of users.

On its status page, Reddit said it was investigating elevated errors across its website and the app.

Over 112,400 users reported that the platform was down at 11.39 a.m. ET, according to Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from various sources.

Most people were reporting issues with the app, but problems were also recorded on its website.

It appears the forum has since come back online, although no explanation has been given for the outage.

Reddit describes itself as, ‘the heart of the internet’. The social media platform sees users post in ‘subreddit’ threads to discuss issues and topics.

Users then upvote or down vote content, helping the most valuable or popular responses rise to the top.

The site has become increasingly popular as a means of tracking the latest developments with breaking news.

And its eagle-eyed users are famed for spotting tiny details in stories – or offbeat incidents – which end up becoming viral news.

DailyMail.com has contacted Reddit for comment.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
