A DRIVER was quizzed by cops after smashing his Range Rover into a wall just metres from the Beckham’s country mansion.
The male suspect was arrested after crashing his £150,000 Range Rover through the wall of the Great Tew estate, in Oxfordshire.
Locals said the vehicle must have been travelling at “massive speed” to get through the newly-built boundary just a stone’s throw from David and Victoria Beckham’s country home.
A vehicle matching the description of the Range Rover was seen leaving nearby exclusive country club Soho Farmhouse on Saturday night, where fellow ex-Spice Girl Geri Halliwell had been signing copies of her latest children’s book.
A group of men and women are believed to have left the swanky venue in it after seeing Will Young perform there.
Cops were called following the smash and quizzed a man, 31, on suspicion of drink driving and leaving the scene of an accident.
A source said: “It was clearly an almighty crash. The front of the Range Rover was all smashed up.
“You could see the skid marks sell across the road and the grass in front of the wall and the airbags had gone off in the front.
“Even in a Land Rover you would have to be going at a hell of pace the get through a new wall like that. It’s incredible no-one was hurt or killed.
“It’s well known the Beckham’s moved to the Cotswolds for some peace and quiet – their house is their sanctuary.
“This is last thing they would expect to be happening on their doorstep.”
A recovery vehicle was seen loading the wrecked Range Rover by 7.30am on Sunday just six hours after the smash is believed to have happened.
The destroyed wall forms part of the vast Great Tew Estate, home to Hollywood celebrities, and owned by millionaire Nicholas Johnston – close pal of ex-PM David Cameron.
In recent years he has built a new wall and gates as part of a massive refurbishment project.
The offences of leaving the scene of an accident and drink driving both carry maximum sentences of six months – but have unlimited fines.
A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “A 31-year-old man from West Oxfordshire was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink and failing to stop after a road accident. He remains in police custody.”
The Sun has approached Soho Farmhouse for comment.
