At least one dead after helicopter splits in half and crashes into NYC’s Hudson river with child on board

At least one person has been killed after a helicopter plunged into New York’s Hudson river.

The chopper was carrying four people including a young boy who was pulled from the waters, a police source told

. His condition is not known.

The terrifying crash took place at around 3:15pm on Thursday, closer to the New Jersey side of the Hudson River.

Witnesses said they saw the chopper ‘split in half’ before it went down near Pier 40, the

reports.

Dramatic video showed the helicopter sinking into the water as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

The cause of the crash remains unclear as rescue operations continue.

The chopper appeared to be a N216MH – a Bell 206L-4, according to Flight Radar.
