A Tesla has recorded the moment a masked cyclist smashed its rear window and stole a £1,000 Stone Island jacket the owner had just bought from Harrods.

The theft was caught on the electric vehicle’s CCTV system and gave a clear picture of the cycling thief.

But because he was wearing a face covering, police have almost no chance of a description as all that was visible was his eyes.

The theft took place in Knightsbridge, London, not far from historic department store Harrods.

Stone Island coats cost around £1,000 but can go for as much as £1,300.

The driver had left the bag on view in the vehicle and the car’s windows were fully tinted.

Cameras on the side and rear of the expensive American car picked up the moment the thief spotted the car, parked up his bike and then smashed the back window.

He was wearing full cycling gear including a luminous jacket, leggings and a face covering to protect against the cold.

He can then be seen pedalling off, the Stone Island bag clearly visible in his hand.

Last month, masked thieves stole items from a car while the driver and passenger were inside, with the shocking incident captured on CCTV.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: ‘Police are investigating a theft that occurred at around 15:50hrs on Monday, 10 March in Green Street, W1 in which a man was reported to have stolen items from the back of a car.

‘No arrest have been made at this stage. Enquiries continue.’

The video, captured outside a Sikh place of worship in Southall, West London, showed a red Mercedes pull into the car park and drive around for several seconds.

The car drove forwards and backwards as the gang of thieves appeared to try and find a car to target.

It then stopped near a dark people carrier and the pair of crooks wearing face masks and black jackets jumped out.

One of the thieves had a hood up and the other was wearing a baseball cap.

The hooded thief opened the back driver’s side door and swiped something from the back seat.

The other did the same from the front passenger side – but the driver and front seat passenger were in the vehicle at the time.

The getaway driver in the Mercedes hatchback waited for the two thieves to get in then sped off with the doors still open.
