Hollyoaks star David Ames has revealed he’s been rushed to hospital after waking up in ‘absolute agony.’
The actor starred as interim headteacher Carter Shepherd in the soap from 2023 to 2024, and shared his health scare with his followers on Instagram on Tuesday.
Posting a snap of his arm attached to hospital monitors, David wrote: ‘Waking up in absolute agony with possible kidney stones is not how I planned to start my day. But here we are.’
He then went onto share a playful post poking fun at the hospital jelly he’d been given by doctors.
David has also previously starred as Dominic Copeland in medical drama Holby City – so he’s clearly no stranger to hospital surroundings.
During his time on Hollyoaks, David’s character Carter was the villain at the centre of a hard-hitting conversion therapy storyline.

While on the surface Carter presented himself as a kind-hearted headteacher, but in reality he resented himself for having feelings for men, and bullied teen Lucas Hay to reject his sexuality.
Carter went onto kidnap John Paul McQueen before almost drowning him, but was later arrested by police.
Speaking about the hard-hitting storyline, David told The Radio Times: ‘There were really heavy moments where I had to be cruel to people; I had to be horrible, I had to say spiteful, vicious things – some of which I’ve had said to me in the past.
‘So, to be able to get into that mindset, actually, was quite difficult at times, and was heavy.
‘There was a lot for me to unpick there, with regards to his distaste for the LGBTQ+ community, and how he didn’t align himself with all of that.’
It comes after it was revealed that a legendary Hollyoaks star has made a surprise return to the soap after his explosive exit.
Jamie Lomas, 49 – who is best known for playing baddie Warren Fox, has already filmed his comeback scenes for the Channel 4 soap.
The actor first appeared in the village from 2006 to 2011, then rejoined the cast five years later until leaving in 2024.

Fans of the show will remember how the gangster ran away from his responsibilities, but now he’s due to appear in a flashback.
Talking about his return, Jamie said: ‘There’s a lot the fans don’t know about the missing year and I’m excited to be a part of the special episode.
‘I always love coming back home to Hollyoaks.’
A source told The Sun: ‘Hollyoaks bosses promised to revisit the missing year and what better way than to welcome back Warren for it.
‘It was too good an opportunity to miss and Jamie jumped at the chance.
‘He loved his time on the show and he was more than happy to return for an appearance.’
He will appear on our screens this Spring and be involved in Mercedes’ Bowel Cancer diagnosis and Joel’s relapse episode.
